Reasons to Learn a Foreign Language as a Christian: Share the Gospel in More Than One Language
We as believers are commanded to share the gospel with others (Matthew 28:19-20). There are several ways to share the gospel as we discussed in this blog post!
How much more glory could you bring to God’s name and what impact can you have if you were able to share the gospel to more people? Learning a foreign language gives you access to more people naturally as you can communicate with people that don’t speak your native language.
This is one of the main reasons to learn a foreign language as a Christian. Your voice to share the gospel is not limited to one language.
Reasons to Learn a Foreign Language as a Christian: You Can Serve Others that Other People Can’t
Being able to communicate with people that others can’t can open several doors of opportunities. For instance, you can help translate for people and help in missions that need people who speak that language. For instance, there may be a need in a Christian mission organization in your community for people who can translate French into English. If you speak French as well you can serve through this opportunity and do what you love!
Reasons to Learn a Foreign Language as a Christian: Teaching Others
Another reason to learn another language is to teach others! Many people need help or practice learning another language. If you know that language you can teach others that language. Being able to teach others provides you with even more opportunities to show the love of Christ and ultimately share the Gospel. The cool thing about teaching is you can teach not only in your hometown but across the globe!
Reasons to Learn a Foreign Language as a Christian: Missions
There are so many Christian missions that need people who speak foreign languages! If you have felt a calling to be on missions having another language under your belt is vital. Even if you don’t feel called to missions you can go on short-term trips to countries where you know the language (helping your team) to further glorify God.
Reasons to Learn a Foreign Language as a Christian: Allows You to Meet More People
Learning a foreign language allows you to be surrounded by different cultures and people. Having access to so many more people provides more opportunities for what? Glorify God! You can build relationships and share the love of God with more people than you wouldn’t originally be able to communicate in your native language.
Reasons to Learn a Foreign Language as a Christian: Enhances Memory Skills
You may be wondering what memory skills have to do with glorifying God. Well, building a stronger memory through language learning provides a foundation for you to be able to memorize God’s word more! Many people struggle with memorizing Bible scriptures and verses. Learning a language naturally will boost your memory skills which will in turn help you when studying God’s word.
Reasons to Learn a Foreign Language as a Christian: Allows For Partnership with Missions
Many churches partner with missions across the globe to help support mission efforts in sharing the gospel. Unfortunately, mainly churches lack people that can communicate with these missions and vice versus. However, when more people speak different languages it allows communication to happen between missions and churches. More resources and assistance can be given to missions if communication is established.
Reasons to Learn a Foreign Language as a Christian: Makes You More Confident
Another reason to learn a foreign language is confidence! Growing your confidence naturally comes about from learning a language as it forces you to get out of your comfort zone. Sharing the gospel requires the same skill set utilized in learning a language. The two intertwined beautifully to grow your confidence for a greater purpose.

Learning a language takes SO MUCH time. An individual has to have discipline to stay on the course of learning a language. Building discipline is not only a part of language learning but continuously growing in Christ. Discipline is like a muscle that requires constant usage to grow. Therefore, learning a language builds this “muscle” which in turn will help you to be more disciplined in areas, such as being productive with the time God has given you.
